cameras in the classroom debate
How can i refute this point?

Im in debate class and my opposition team kinda sucks.
I am refuting against the point:
Cameras in the classroom can detect acts of vandalism and possibly save time and money catching who was responsible.

How do i prove that wrong?
***** I’m in a 7th grade debate class, on the opposition team.

It seems that some of the other answers do not address/refute the point you raise…..
actually…it’s hard to think of a sensible argument to refute the security aspects of cameras in the classroom…it’s a pretty strong argument…however I would try this…

1-cameras in the classroom have the potential to encourage acts of vandalism as students misbehave in order to show off in front of their freinds…some people will do anything to appear on television, even perform acts of wanton vandalism
2-vandalism (graffitti etc) is a form of self expression, and to install cameras could stifle self expression which is so important in the teenage formative years…and after all, it is only state property that is being damaged…so who really cares???
3-cameras in the classroom could encourage miscreants to wear balaclavas as they strive to avoid detection…and no one wants to see students having to cover up do they???
4-there is educational merit in vandalism, especially graffitti…it encourages students to explore alternative forms of communication..so cameras in the classroom could be seen as anti-educational as students are forced to only communicate using traditional forms of language and text…far too conservative in our progressive world where radical forms of thought and expression should be encouraged and not muted
5-vandalism is fun..and schools should be places of fun as we all know that students learn best when having fun..right??? who doesn’t agree with that…(both Montessori and Dewey would agree with this propositon…so enough said!!!)

with arguments like this your team is sure to win…or at least get a few laughs.
