Commercial Photographer – Use of Backdrops

Having decided to set up your own business as a commercial photographer, you would need money to invest in a lot of things that you would require while clicking images. To make your images look good, to make them as desired by the clients, there are many things that are needed, like technologically advanced digital cameras, props, lights and flash guns, different kinds of umbrellas, and backdrops. In this article, we would talk about the different kinds of backdrops that you can use to make the photographs you click look professional.

You can convert any space into your studio and give your images the right effect by using the right backdrops. There are backdrops used by commercial photographers are made up of different materials and they come in various size and shapes for the perfect look. Let us look at the different materials that are used in the backdrops first. The best way to go about it is by using professional backdrops. Now, let us see what all sizes of backdrop you would need. The commonly used backdrop sizes are 6X9, 10X12 and 10X20. While the 6X9 size is ideal for head shots and clicking images of small items, the 10X12 ones can be used to shoot photographs of individuals. However, as a commercial photographer, you would have to play around with the lighting arrangement to give the right effect to your subject. And with both the options above, you have limited choice in lighting.

On the other hand, the 10X20 is quite versatile and allows you to experiment with lights. You can shoot both small items as well as big ones with this size of backdrop. You can use the 10X20 for family photographs and other arrangements. It is always good to keep two 10X20 backdrops, because a commercial photographer would need both of them quite often.
