Canon Rebel Xsi 12.2 mp with 18-55mm lens… I’m a newbie… my burst pics in sports mode come out ALL blurry!
Hello, this is my first dslr camera. I’ve been playing with the camera and trying to use the “sports” mode to take burst shots of my brother boxing, but ALL the pics come out blurry. The room was brightly lit. If I change modes or don’t use the burst mode, it captures the picture amazingly crisp, regardless of how fast he is punching. But if I go to burst mode, if he makes even the slightest movement, the pic gets all blurred. I even had the camera mounted on a tripod to make sure it wasn’t me shaking. I also made sure to press the button halfway, get the beeping, then fire – but as mentioned, all the burst shots come out really blurry.
Is it that I need a different lens? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
What is the shutter speed the camera took those photos? Can you upload one to http://www.flickr.com and add (as comment) the link to the question so we can see?
What was the ISO ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_speed ) set for these shots? Keep in mind that your kit lens, when zoomed in, the aperture is down to f 5.6, ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aperture ) so it doesn’t let that much light in to use a faster shutter speed.
Anyway, you can also view the info in camera when you [play] the image back.

A different lens would be useful. The 50 mm f 1.8 Canon is under a hundred dollars. It will work as a short telephoto for your camera (as it does not have a full frame sensor so 50 mm works like 50 x 1.6 = 80 also see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crop_factor )
You will find that it’s much brighter to focus in the view finder (as it is much “faster” being f 1.8 v.s. f 5.6 with your kit lens). See here about f stops : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F_stop
