Canon Powershot SD970is vs SD990is – which is best?
I am going on a trip soon and want to get a small, portable camera (something I can fit in my purse/pocket) that produces quality shots. I am going to purchase it from Costco, but I am not sure which “Point & Shoot” model to get. I feel like the Canon Powershot might be the best camera out of the bunch (although I could be wrong – I know nothing about photography).
I think I am divided between 2 different models right now – the Canon Powershot SD990is and the SD970is. Does anyone have any idea which might be the better camera? I can’t see too much of a difference between the two, aside from the 990is having 14.7megapixels and the 970is having 12.1.
Thanks so much!
The SD990 beats the SD970 in term of image resolutions (14.7 vs 12.1 MegaPixels) and the manual mode.
However, the SD970 has some features that the 990 doesn’t have. First, it has a little bit larger image sensor so the image quality is slightly better. Second, it got more optical zoom (5x vs 3.7x). Third, its LCD screen has more resolution (461,000 vs 230,000 pixels). Lastly, it can capture the HD movies.
About the size, they have almost the same dimension.
(WxHxD) 3.73 x 2.24 x 1.04 inch — the 970
(WxHxD) 3.81 x 2.45 x 1.10 inch — the 990
If I were you, I would go with the SD970. Unfortunately, the SD970 is more expensive.
