Canon Powershot A720 is Or Canon Powershot A570 is?

well i’m in new zealand and the a570 is about $310 and a720 is is about $390

Do you think that the extra $80 a720 is worth it? or should i save the $80 and use it for something else.. i’m gonna be using this camera, for pics with friends, maybe homework, family , holiday pics etc. and maybe a bit of of photography for own small hobby for pleasure. thanks. (in new zealand dollars btw)

also how are the battery life?

Both those cameras are great.

Just ask yourself “will I be enlarging any of the photos larger than 5×7″ ?

If the answer is NO then you don’t need 7megapixles.

I researched for a whole year while attending digital camera classes before actually buying one.

I ended up with a Canon A430 for $110 (4 megapixels and 4X optical zoom) with all the things you need like macros for close-up, self timer etc.

It is an absolute gem !

I have never had a failure. The 4X zzom is the most important feature since the secret if ALL good photis is “head and shoulders” shots.

Those pictures we used to take 10 or 15 feet away with all the background stuff in view and the actual subjects (people) rather small are AWFUL compared to to-days
s digital head and shoulder shots.

The idea is to stand that same 10 to 15 feet and press your finger on that ZOOM. The subjects move into your screen and when they almost fill the screen you have zoomed just right. Press that button, the flasj will go off and your perfect picture is assured.

I bought 4 rechargeable double A’s with a charger for $12 complete which is what most peopleuse. One set in the camera, theother ready for quick replacement.

If you can buy cheap lithium double A’s (I bought a pair for $5) do so, as they will last a year or more and 100′s of pictures.

It is so sad that the camera stores never tell you that you don’t need a miulti-pixel camera UNLESS you are going to produce large prints.

Where I live in Canada nobody wants big pictures. All my family want is wallet size of the new baby or a realtive.

I print my coloured picturtes on my Canon printer and they are as good as the store kind. My scanner also copies them to my computer for sending off to relatives in UK or AUstralia.
