Next, consider the night time recording capabilities of the security camera. Some are better than others. The parameter to look for is the Lux rating of the device. The Lux is the measurement of a cameras’ ability to be able to ‘see’ in the dark. The lower the Lux number – the better it will perform in poorly lit conditions. Compare the Lux values of different cameras in your price range. If you need the capability to work in virtually zero lighting then infrared is the way to go.

For the installation of a outdoor security camera there is a choice of hard wired or wireless and both have their pros and cons. A hard wired system is deemed to be more reliable and longer lasting but generally does require professional install – which could be pricy. A wireless system on the other hand, can be installed by the average DIY’er and literally just needs to be attached to a wall. Wireless security devices are now far more reliable than what they were a few years ago but will regularly need their batteries replacing.
