Can I return a Digital Camera Battery?

I bought a camera today from Best Buy. The camera was on sale because it was a display camera. It did not come with a battery so the sales rep picked up one for me to buy so I could use the camera. I didn’t realize that he picked up the wrong battery that does not fit my camera. I have already opened the battery and charged it. Can I return it even though it is opened? The battery was not cheap. It cost me $50. Thanks.
