digital cameras uk reviews
Plz help me chose the beset camera?

I’m going on Michael Jackson’s concert in July (woohoo!!) and I need to find the best camera to take pictures inside the venue. I don’t know much about cams so I don’t know what specifics I would need to take good, clear pictures in a dark venue, so please help me.

The o2 prohibits “professional” looking cameras, so it has to be a small one. I know that Cannon usually has the best models, but I don’t know which to chose.

Can someone tell me which cam in these links (or not) would be the best for me to get?

OK, that’s a once in a lifetime concert so you want to give yourself the best chance of success. You’re right about only being able to take small cameras into O2 so you are really limited to a “point and shoot”. Taking good pictures in this situation is actually quite difficult. You really need a camera with a large sensor to collect as much light as possible.

In my opinion, your best option is the recently released Fuji F200EXR (sorry, I do like Canon generally, but not a small P&S for a concert). You can read about the F200EXR here

Fuji has been developing their SuperCCD sensor over the years and there is no arguing with the fact that they are using a larger sensor than other manufacturers in this P&S camera so the performance in low light is better. If this camera is too expensive, take a look at their older models such as F100fd, F60fd, F50fd, F45fd, F40fd which use earlier generation SuperCCD sensors. I used a F40fd at the O2 Kylie concert last year and got decent results.

Which ever camera you decide on, remember you must not use the flash. Practise before the event with different settings. You will need to use at least ISO 800 (this is the sensitivity to light) and possibly higher to avoid blur if there is a lot of movement on stage. The pictures produced by most P&S cameras are very noisy at these ISO levels, but the F series Fujis are quite acceptable at ISO800+. You compromise picture quality with high ISOs to try and avoid blur so check out the higher ISOs beforehand to see what you will get and then set the ISO limit according to how far you are prepared to go. Also remember to hold the camera steady when shooting – it is easy to get carried away at an event and shoot one-handed, a sure recipe for blurry photos. Take lots of photos to increase your chances of obtaining some good shots because there are bound to be some that disappoint. Finally don’t forget the video mode can give some very impressive results.

Good luck and hope you have a “Thriller”!
