Photography and why its never been a better time to buy a digital SLR
Photography is increasingly a ‘cool hobby’. From my experience in the industry, I have found that we are witnessing a real surge in the popularity of photography. This ranges from keen amateur photographers, to seasoned professionals, who make their living from talking pictures. Whichever category you fit into you will want to look into getting a digital SLR camera. SLR stands for single lens reflex, and these are the cameras which often have a large lens on the front. These days they have gone digital, hence Digital SLR (DSLR).
Whilst the cost of digital SLR varies markedly, ranging from a few hundred pounds, to a good few thousand pounds, they are one of the best investments you will ever make if you want to start taking your photography seriously. The cameras themselves offer varying levels of intricacy, and take some mastering, but the results can be out of this world. The finest pictures on the planet have all been taken with SLR cameras, and the increased levels of user inputted control makes the whole process of taking a fantastic picture so much more rewarding.
You see the beauty of the digital SLR is that you have the artistic control of the traditional SLR and the convenience of digital files. When you use interchangeable lens you have the choice of both manual and automatic settings. This makes it easy to play around with the camera and see what is best for you and what you require. The ever growing ranges of computer editing software allow for the creation of some incredibly unique, stunning affects as well.
To help you decide whether a digital SLR camera is right for you I am going to show you a few reasons why you want to purchase a digital SLR camera. The first of these reasons would be that the DSLR allows you to get the perfect lens for the perfect photo. Manufacturers have a very large variety of DSLR lenses, and as an example, I stock in excess of 220 lenses alone in onlinecamerawarehouse.co.uk. You can have zooms, super zooms, and even ultra wide angles. The list goes on, there is a lens for just about any type of photography that you can think of and a lens for every situation that you can’t!
Another thing about the digital SLR is the faster power up. The DSLR power up is almost instant and this allows you to react quickly so that you do not miss what could be a once in a lifetime shot. There are few more frustrating things for a photographer then missing the crucial shot, simply because your camera wouldn’t turn on quick enough. DSLR’s start-up in a small fraction of a second, and as such, this is largely a problem consigned to the history books. This in itself is reason to go from the point and click camera to a DSLR camera. With the rapid frame rate you can take several pictures within a second. You can do this because the DSLR has a fast image processor and large buffer.
Now at the top of the list would be that you get better image quality. A digital image that is taken with the DSLR is almost always a lot better that a compact digital and I mean a lot better. The top range of SLR cameras have upwards of 25 megapixels, which blows any compact digital out of the water, you also have higher light sensitivities and a much higher quality lens.
A few more things that I think you should know is that with the digital SLR you have threw the lens viewing. With this you can get away from the sun on your screen and not being able to see what you are shooting. This also stands true for areas that are dimly lit. Also you easy access to controls with thumb and forefinger wheels that control feature exposure settings. This is real important when it comes to not missing a shot, you do not have to look for the control wheel that you want. And end up losing the shot. You also have the option of remote operation, via remote control, which is invaluable whilst shooting nature. If your camera is pointing at the area where the action is expected to commence, then a simple remote controller prevents you having to stand or sit for hours, with your eye up against a viewfinder.
Last but just as important as the rest of the others benefits to having the DSLR is that you have more creativity and flexibility with camera accessories. These accessories include external flashes, wireless transmitters, and even remote triggering devices. As with the lens the list goes on with way to many accessories for me to list here. The customisability of an SLR camera allows you to really make it your own. The use of different battery grips alters the feel of the camera, and the different accessories allow for entirely unique shooting modes and thus pictures.
With SLR’s now starting at a mere few hundred pounds, there has never been a better time to make the jump into the land of the professionals. I hope this article has been useful for you.
