Digital SLR Camera for Photography Student?

I’m going to study Photography next semester and I need a camera.
I recieved a Nikon D60 for Christmas and was wondering if It would be alright to use for my course.
On the application form it says quote:
Students would be expected to have access to a reasonable quality, 35mm SLR camera (film or digital) with manual capability.
What I’m trying to ask is will my D60 be okey or will I have to purchase an other camera.
Any help would be appreciated.

First if the first class in photography is digital, then your D60 is perfect. If the class is in traditional photography (usually where students start learning how to control fully adjustable cameras) you will have to buy a nice Nikon 35 mm SLR. You can find good used ones on craigslist for under $150 with a standard lens in a city near you.

Check with your instructor to see which kind of camera you will need first.
