The Canon Powershot A700 digital camera is a stylish and chic camera. It’s one I can take all over the place, to document those exceptional moments in my life. I break it out to capture the faces of my friends when we’re together, special family times and all kinds of times and places I don’t want to forget.
Receiving my first camera is a special memory in itself. It was when I was just 10, and Santa gave me an “Instamatic”. I was so excited to have a camera of my very own! Now I would be able to take my memories with me everywhere my dad’s work took us. Understand, my father was a confirmed Navy man which means we were transferred often.
As my father’s career took us across the country and abroad I took photos of whatever I saw. I have pictures of my family viewing all kinds of tourist spots, on the Atlantic, Pacific and everywhere in between. Abroad my camera came with me everywhere my passport took me, capturing numerous and priceless memories.
On my dad’s side I come from a huge Irish family. My dad’s first cousins alone numbered almost 100. And I have snapshots — of my grandmother, aunts and uncles, of first cousins, second cousins and once-removed, of christenings, birthdays, graduations, weddings and huge family reunions. Because of my camera I keep my extended family with me everywhere I go.
When photography entered the digital age, all of a sudden a new world of possibilities opened up. First, I no longer had to put photos in the mail if I wanted to share them. Since all my friends are on email I could forward photos instantly anyplace in the world. And can you say “Photoshop”? It was amazing to have so many “special effects” at my disposal from my laptop!
Life has changed; I’m no longer a teenager, travelling with my parents, but I have kids of my own. The memories I attain are changed, but my camera is still forever with me. Now my camera documents the lives of my children, our forever friends, and the trips I plan as a parent. The milestones I capture now are with the next generation of relatives.
As far as family goes, our description is changed from what I grew up with; we didn’t live near many blood relations but we somehow find friends that develop into family. My camera helps me to hang on to these memories for not just myself, but my offspring, and all the people that I can share my photos with.
An associate of mine who is looking to purchase a camera just asked my opinion. It’s tough to select a preferred camera after all these years, but of all the cameras I’ve owned it’s the Canon Powershot A700. When I reflect on the photographs it captures — my loved ones, past and present — that’s a lot to live up to.
