Every week some new restriction on freedom is introduced. Stop & Search. Unmanned helicopter spy cameras. Uncontrolled cowboy security companies and car clampers. And a strong unspoken message that we are ALL criminals and we should stay home and watch drivel TV and not be a a nuisance.
YES!!!!! Government’s answer to any problem for the last 30 years has been to make any problem illegal, usually with a knee-jerk reaction piece of legislation which is basically unenforceable (see the Dangerous Dogs Act or Prevention of Harassment Act for perfect examples), and then expect the police to solve the problem. If they actually worked out what the problem was and whether it actually was a problem and then tried to address it properly, there would have 95% less criminal laws passed.
And, contrary to popular belief, the average working police didn’t want the laws in the first place.
