How Safe Is Your Ghost Hunting?

It’s an important question; just how dangerous is ghost hunting? Forget being possessed by hostile spirits, simply walking around in a strange, pitch black house trying to catch a glimpse of a ghost could put you in the emergency room, after all, you’re looking for important evidence and not particularly where you’re feet are going.

Sometimes the dangers are not so obvious. You might be in old, sometimes derelict buildings that are in desperate need of repair or renovation. Inhaling asbestos and toxic chemicals can also be an unseen threat.

Thanks to a revived interest in ghost hunting, many people are finding ways to record evidence with ghost equipment such as infra red video cameras. Some can be used remotely and this helps to both maximize the surveillance area, and reduce the amount of risky ground that needs to be physically covered, often at night.

Four examples of remote viewing ghost equipment and their uses are:

• Night Vision Camera with DVR (Digital Video Recorder); these cameras can be setup in different rooms through out the building or area being investigated. The camera can be hooked up to a DVR wirelessly or wired to a DVR to record evidence or to be watched remotely by other team members.
• Digital Voice Recorders; are used to pick up ghost EVP’s (Electronic Voice Phenomenon). These recorders can be setup to be voice activated so you can leave it unattended in a room.
• Tonal EVP Listeners; these devices can either be carried or left in a room to record energy fluctuations and make a changing tone that varies when the background energy levels rise as a paranormal event manifests.
• Infrared Video Camera; These cameras are used by the Hubble telescope to look back to the beginnings of time. They are equally useful for measuring incredibly subtle variations in heat and cold during a paranormal event.

But even with all the technology out there, there are still aspects of ghost hunting that will always require human beings. We are still needed to ask the right questions and make spontaneous decisions. Ghost hunting can be sometimes uneventful and boring, but when it is not the fear and thrill of exploring lonely places, looking for some mysterious full body apparition and catching the evidence on good quality ghost equipment is an incredible high.

There are three commonsense rules to ghost hunting.

• When hunting make sure you travel with a partner. Not only for safety but for collaboration of experiences.
• Use common sense when investigating.
• Stay calm and approach investigating in a scientific manner and you will collect some great evidence.

Who knows, maybe you will be the one to answer the question, ‘is there an afterlife’?
