The iPhone has sold more than 50 million units since it was released in 2007. Because of this extraordinary number, the possibilities of cell phones have been expanded both in what they can do and how they are used. Leading the charge of the next generation of cell phones is the iPhone 4. Is it possible for the device to live up to the hype? The iPhone features a new, 3.5-inch screen called the “Retina.” It is an IPS, LCD display that lays claim to 326 pixels per inch and a resolution of 960 x 640 pixels. In layman’s terms, this means that the display is clearer and of a much higher resolution than any other phone available. It really attracts the eye. The annoying low battery alert will be heard far less often with the extended battery. The battery life equals seven hours of talk time (300 hours of standby), which is 40% more than the iPhone 3G. The iPhone 4 utilizes the same processor as the iPad. The processor equals or betters that of any other phone on the market and the difference is noteworthy. The operating system used is the iOS 4, which includes – for the first time – the ability to multitask. That means no more deciding whether to listen to music or check your email, as you will be able to do both, or anything else for that matter, at the same time. You can also create folders in iTunes and iBooks, which could not be done before. In fact, Apple claim that around 1500 features have been improved, modified and created in the new version of its OS, which is undoubtedly quite an improvement. The iPhone 4 possesses a camera that is leaps and bounds better than those used in previous iPhones. A 5.0 megapixel camera is found on the iPhone 4 and it is capable of recording video in HD at 720p.  Apple obviously was tired of receiving complaints of the inferior cameras manufactured before. Also worthy of note is the inclusion of “Face Time.” It is the ability to place video calls, a feature that no other smartphone can claim. Expect to pay around $200.00 for an iPhone 4 with a two year contract. Be sure to check various network operators and providers because the price will vary. You may be able to find it for less than $200.00. It is also better to resist the urge to run down to the store and buy the first phone you see. Check online and comparison shop. It does not take much time and may save you some significant cash.
