Good Cell Phone Without a plan for under $100.00?
I am in high school (Grade 10) and I want a cell phone. My parents are willing to buy me a cell phone without a contract as long as it is under $100. I want something with a camera, mp3 player and probably bluetooth and worldwide. Thanks. All Suggestions are welcome. Oh and I live in Canada if that helps. =)
Here’s the scoop:
if you want a worldwide phone, you are either looking at a ~very~ expensive CDMA phone (something from Telus or Bell, and for this kind of phone you are looking at over $200 on a contract), or a quad-band phone from Rogers or Fido. No contract, you will naturally be paying significantly more. There is honestly no phone that will cover all the options you are looking for and still be under $100 without signing a contract.
All these companies do have phones that will fit at least one or two of the options you are looking for. For example, Solo Mobile has a phone (samsung m300) that is $99.99 with no contract, buying it through prepaid, but it only has the camera and bluetooth, no MP3 playback ability or GSM (worldwide) functionality.
New to the game of everything, Koodo Mobile actually has no contracts. They do have what is called a Tab, and to learn more about things like that you would have to go to a store to gain information about. That is the only way you may be able to get a phone that has more of the features you are looking for, but you still will not be able to get ~all~ the features you want for that price.
For a better idea of what you can get, check out each of company’s website and look at what you can get for each company’s prepaid service. The current list of service providers in Canada is as follows: Telus, Koodo Mobile, Bell Mobility, Solo Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Rogers, and Fido. The absolute cheapest phones will be under Fido, Solo, Virgin, and Koodo.
