Traffic In San Antonio?
I have been workng in the San Antonio area since last August. I live near the Medical Center and drive daily to near the Sea World area. I see a lot of cameras at intersections. I am told that this is for traffic control. Are they really used for this? If so maybe someone should take a couple of classes in their use as San Antonio has some of the worse ftraffic I have see,
Comments….??????
Yes I agree with the three interstates going through the city.
Don’t forget the six or eight lane route 10 with a 55MPH limit and usually police near by monitoring…
Excellent point, I am from the NE and am not used to not having Yield signs coming on or off the interstates. The right of way goes to the fastest……
Don’t forget, turn signals must be opional equipment as they seem to be seldom used…..
There are cameras at some intersections in the San Antonio area which are to catch speeding and persons violating the traffic control lights. TXDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) also has cameras on the major highways (which the first responder commented on) in the state to evaluate traffic flow, and to determine future expansion requirements. These cameras are also easily available to the media news agencies who use them for traffic reports on TV and radio.
Cameras do not improve peoples driving, nor do they improve city and highway planning, both of which are quite poor in San Antonio. The poor planning is clearly evident by running three interstates through the city and not developing any HOV lanes, And also by developing a loop around the city which has a 70 mph speed limit, and then making it 2 lanes at most places.
However, poor highway planning is a statewide problem, Houston is worse (even with HOV lanes), Dallas is just as bad or worse, and Austin is plain horrible.
Of course having Texas natives flair for driving doesn’t help. As Jeff Foxworthy says: “If you are driving 80 mph in a 65 mph zone and people are passing you… You are probably in Texas!”
