Snapped by a speed camera for using a phone while stationary on the side of the road? Is this legal?
Tonight, while I was leaving a friends house, I got into my car and turned my car on to warm the engine. While still parked, i made a quick phone call to a friend and while on the phone I was snapped by a speed camera across the road. There were no other cars on the road so i know it was directed at me. Keep in mind I was stationary and had hung up the phone before driving off.
I was just wondering, are speed cameras able to do this in South Australian Legislation, because I thought that mobile phone use was an on the spot fine. Also, are there new laws that state you can’t even have your engine on while on the phone, parked on the side of the road or otherwise?
The picture taken by the speed camera would clearly show that you were still parked at your friends house. So I would not fret over it. The camera can also tell if you were actually moving or not.
