Computer question: Which is better for photography/multimedia?
I’ve spoken to sales clerks at Best Buy and at a reputable camera store..they both recommended Macs over PCs when it comes to doing heavy-duty media work, i.e. Adobe, videos,etc.
Are some of you working professionals? What do you use/recommend for a new guy embarking on photography as a career?
Alas, I do not have big coin to buy a blazing, 8-core CPU, 4TB RAM workstation either. (I wish)
I have always used PCs.
That being said, I DO need decent power/speed/memory though.

There is no real difference between the operating systems from Microsoft or Apple. The the difference will only be in the editing software and most editing programs are available for both windows and mac.
As for the career side, the industry standard is a mac, but I have worked in a graphic design agency that used both mac and windows machines.
The main difference is that apple machines are all integrated and are non-upgradable and you will find yourself replacing it in a year or so for the next model, whereas, since windows does not require specific hardware, your computer can be upgraded as you need and will last a bit longer.
Oh and custom windows machines are a lot cheaper than apples for the same specifications.
I hope that helps you decide, I tried out a mac because, like you, I was told they were better for media but have since found there to be little difference other than price.
