What is the best digital camera for under $200?
This is my Christmas present but I don’t trust my mo to pick one out for me, so I’m telling her what to get. Features I’m looking for include: lots of storage, good telephoto zoom lens, good macro feature, Photoshop plug-in, optical resolution, high ISO sensitivity, and a fast burst rate. Please help me make a decision!
For under $200? Wow, you want a lot for under $200.
For lots of storage, forget any camera with internal storage. Just get a good sized memory card. Also, for burst shooting, you won’t get more than about 1 to 2 frames per second, probably for about 3 to 5 frames max. Also, high ISO sensitivity is poor on cameras under $200 and in fact on most point and shoots costing hundreds more.
Two basic suggestions:
Canon A570 IS which is 7mp, 4x zoom, and has image stabilization. About $155 from online stores. Add a $20 SD memory card and another $25 for rechargeable NiMH AA batteries plus a charger. Burst mode, about 1.7 frames per second for an unlimited number of frames.
Panasonic makes a similar camera, but with a 6x zoom, the DMC-LZ7. It has image stabilization, 7 megapixels and the 6x zoom. Also about $155. Get the same accessories: a memory card and a recharger/NiMH batteries.
