Skype Or Ichat?

Which VoIP is best? I’m here to find out.

I have both Skype and iChat, and use the both regularly, and have used all the features. I find I use Skype more, as more of my friends have Windows machines, and iChat is Mac-only, which can be a problem. I tend to use iChat for family video chats, as everyone in my family has a macbook and I find it’s multi-user abilities and photo-sharing abilities make me use it over Skype, but I was surprised to find that the video quality was fluctuating vastly, and that it was normally a lot worse, though the audio quality was clearer and easier to understand.

Skype is great for video chatting to my friends on windows, so I think I use it more, but I would use iChat when I can. My friends will all be using iChat when the new iPhone 4G comes out with the camera on the front, enabling video conferencing and I suppose it shall be using iChat to integrate with Mac. I also figured that I might as well be using AIM for Mac, as I’m not going to pay 100 dollars (Around £60) for Mobile Me and a .mac account. I’m not quite sure whether that offers Video Chat, and if it does, I highly doubt it will offer the same very good features that iChat will… The main thing that will make me use iChat every day, will be if I can get msn to work on it… There is a way, and I’m very close, but I haven’t managed yet.

You can use either Skype or iChat, depending on your needs. If you want to video-chat with all your friends, Mac or no Mac… then I would recommend Skype, but if you have friends who mainly have Macs, then I would strongly recommend iChat.
