Practicing Remote Security Cameras With Your Computer
Don’t let the label “remote security camera” put you off into trying them. This will not turn you into Big Brother – but will give you not only peace of mind, but a really cool techie toy to play with. If you have small children, valuable livestock or want more security for your outside shed, garage or property, then you will find no better tool than a remote security camera that you can operate on your computer.
Where Can You Find Them?
You don’t need to be a spy in order to buy remote security cameras that you can work with your computer. Security cameras of all types can be found in mainstream electronic stores and (of course) on specialty shops online. Sometimes, you might see them referred to as “remote surveillance systems” rather than “remote security cameras”.
You can also find remote security cameras (computer operated or not) listed on online auction websites like eBay. Although sometimes you can get great bargains on eBay, you do have to realize that it can be a bit of a gamble. You don’t have any kind of warranty or tech support with any complicated equipment bought on eBay. Sometimes, you don’t even get instructions. A reputable seller will welcome any questions about their remote security camera BEFORE you make any bids.
Check Your Specs
Whether you decide on a new or used remote security camera, there are a few things you need to check out before you buy or make a bid. You need to know the specifications of the remote security camera (usually called “specs”). What kind of computer or computer platform will the camera and its software will run on? Some will only run on PC but not Macs. Some will only work for wireless computers but not traditional standard desktops.
And you need to see if you have to buy any little extras in order to set up the system and get the remote security camera to work properly. You should be able to read the installation and operation instructions before purchasing. If they don’t make any sense, then this is not the remote security camera for you.
If you are buying a new remote security camera, then be sure if comes with some sort of warranty. You also want to understand the website or store’s return policy BEFORE you buy. Also, ask where you send the camera if it needs repairs. Does it go to the store or to the manufacturer? This will save you a lot of headaches in the future.
