Yes it is a good idea.
School is public property. In this day and age of inappropriate sexual activities happening between teachers and students, it would be an excellent tool to keep everyone safe. Students safer from predators, teachers safer from false sexual assault claims. If there was a school shooting, having cameras would help police know where shooters were at any given time as well as to track their movements after the fact and piece together what happened.
As long as they are not in bathrooms or locker rooms then it’s fine. The high-school I went to installed security cameras in all the hallways and the student lounge, and that was in the mid 90′s and I live in Canada.
