HELP PLEASE, how do I set up a remote to my camera?!?

I have a Sony DSLR-A300. I recently got a OPTEKA wireless shutter, and I have no idea how to set it up. the instructions say “Turn off the power of receiver, set the channel selector switch of both receiver and transmitter at the same position (total 16 channels) and turn on the power of the receiver.”
I changed both channel selectors on the remotes to (1 up, 2 up, 3 down, 4 up) The two remotes respond to each other, but it has absolutely no effect on my camera.
I feel like an idiot trying to figure this out, so you if you could please give me step-by-step instructions for everything I may have to do to make this work, that would be wonderful!

Sounds like the same thing I bought for my Canon.
I just left it on the original position (all up, I think), plugged the receiver into the camera, turn on the camera and off it went. Worked for a few years just fine, until it stopped. I fiddled around with it for a bit, bought two new batteries and off it went again.

So all I can suggest is to try a few different settings, make sure your receiver is actually plugged in at the right place, and the camera and receiver are both turned on. Put it on manual focus to start with – just in case it simply isn’t taking a photo because the auto focus is stopping it.
