Stop light camera questions?
I was driving behind a SUV going through a yellow light, mid way through, it turned red. The stop light had a camera. I was wondering if I’ll get a ticket. Also, is there anyway I can find out by calling? And, can I fight this in court? Thanks.
You will not get a red-light ticket. Those cameras are designed to take the picture of any vehicle that ENTERS the intersection AFTER the light turns red. If you are sure the light was yellow when you actually entered the intersection (i.e. passed the painted ‘stop line’) it will not have taken your picture. If they took the picture of anyone entering the intersection on a yellow light they would need a whole new traffic department just to handle all the new paperwork. Also, many people don’t realize that a yellow light means ‘Stop’ unless you consider it unsafe to do so. Anyone viewing a picture of a vehicle in a yellow-light intersection could not know the circumstances as to why the vehicle did not stop. Some of the other answers are well-intentioned, but they are just guessing and giving out incorrect information.
P.S. Don’t EVER call and ask if you are going to receive a ticket in the mail. If you are going to get one you would soon know. Don’t throw rocks at a hornets’ nest.
