How does a camera work?
I have already searched on various sites but when I look at it I have no clue what they are talking about. Could any one tell me (or redirect me to a site) how a camera which takes PHOTOS work?
When you are explaining please explain what you are explaining. Sounds strange but if you are saying ‘the light comes in the detector’ please explain what the detector is.
Also, is the way how cameras capture a photo the same in analog camera and digital cameras? So if I would read on wikipedia on how it exactly works, it would be the same on analog and digital cameras?
Cameras work basically the same with analog (film) cameras and digital. The difference is that instead of film a digital camera uses a sensor packed with light sensitive pixels that record the image to a memory card.
All the basic functions are the same though. Light enters through a lens and exposes the film or sensor for a given period of time. To control how much light enters the camera there is a diaghram in the lens. It works very much like your eyes. In dark situations it opens up wide to let more light in. In bright situations it closes to let less light in.
After this there is a shutter or curtain which opens and closes to determine how long the light exposes the film or sensor. Shutter speeds can range from hours to 1/8,000th of a second. Maximum shutter speeds will vary by camera.
This is basically it. The lens focuses the image and is where light enters the camera. It also controls how much light is allowed to enter the camera. The shutter controls the time of exposure and the film or sensor records the image.
Modern digital cameras have a whole bunch of sophisticated electronics but the basics have not changed. They work the same way now as they did 100 years ago.
This link should help as well.
