The LG GD510 Pop has been targeted at customers who would like a touch screen device on a budget. The phone is slim line and very light measuring at 97.8 x 49.5 x 11.2mm and weighs in at a miniscule 87g. The Pop shows off a prominent 3 inch touch screen on the front which has a minimalist design, the casing on the back is neatly finished also, and the only piece of real detail is the lens of its 3 mega pixel camera.

The touch screen on this model is resistive as opposed to capacitive; this means that the smooth multi touch performance you may find on other touch control devices is absent. Nevertheless the screen is amply responsive for gliding and pressing your way through essential tasks and the 262k WQVGA colour display is vivid and bright. An accelerometer has been installed for viewing video, images and web pages in landscape form.

The LG Pop supports the A-Class user interface, this UI offers three home screens all accessed by a simple stroke of your finger. The main home screen has a tab which when pressed brings up a toolbar enabling the use of mini widgets; these widgets include access to social network links, the media player, and Google search. You can drag and drop any of these widgets on to your home screen and by giving your handset a little shake they will shrewdly fall into line. When swiping the main screen aside you pull up another, this one has the LG LiveSquare feature, an eccentric exhibition of recent contacts animated in avatar forms. When these avatars are toggled options are opened where you can choose to text, call or edit the details of the contact you have selected, or if you would prefer just drag and drop the avatar onto an icon to instigate its function.

The LG Pop has integrated web capabilities via its GPRS and EDGE data connections, these are somewhat imperfect but the browser works well enough when rendering mobile optimised sites. The browser controls are impressive and easy to use, and the on screen zoom function is controlled by dragging your finger up and down the bar. This LG model also supports social network management so you can keep up to date with Facebook, Twitter and other sites, once again this service is lacking but with the Pop being so affordable you may find yourself forgiving its short comings.

The LG Pop supports MP4 and 3gp formats and the screen offers a passable performance when playing back video files with a smooth texture to the images and bright colours. The built in accelerometer is effective for watching full screen or in portrait. The media player interface is a delight to use with the addition of image capture whilst watching a video, these images can be saved as jpeg onto you phone.

 

The music player interface is pretty good, it automatically sorts downloaded tracks into category. Sadly there is only 40MB of internal memory in the handset, but this can be boosted with a Micro SD card of up to 8GB. The player offers multiple equaliser settings and is fully touch compatible.

For an affordable touch control phone with web capabilities the LG GD510 Pop is perfect. Though its features and performance are a little limited you are getting what you pay for and some with this device.
