Connecting an old sony video camera to a mac?
My dad has a Sony CCD-V8AF camera that he used throughout our childhood for family videos. The thing is that now all our videos are on 8mm video cassettes.
I want to convert them to DVDs and I’m wondering the best way to do this. I can connect the camera to my tv using an RFU-85 adaptor.
Is there any way of connecting the camera to my mac?
You need an “analog/digital converter”.
You did not tell us which Mac you are using. Assuming it has a firewire port (not USB) then the best converter is the ADVC55 from Canopus.
Connect the AV cable to the camcorder and the A/D converter (this is the same cable you use to connect to the TV for playback). Connect the A/D converter to the Mac’s firewire port. Launch iMovie. Put the camcorder in Play mode. Press Play on the camcorder; Click capture in iMovie.
