How to test a security camera

You can test your camera using the following items:

v  24 V Camera, lens and transformer, wire strippers, gimping tool, T-strippers or 6′ long nose w/ cutters, Philips screwdriver, (2)BNC, (1) RCA adapter, 4ft pieces of RG 59/ V cable. You should install your camera according to the manual of the camera or the security system you want to install.

v  Plug-in the transformer to the outlet or your surge protector.

v  If you only have an RCA input on your monitor or TV, use RCA adapter by attaching it to your BNC, then plug- in the RCA adapter to your video input or monitor or TV.

v  If you can see your camera image then the camera is good out the box, and you are ready to install your camera.

  • Some interested guys in the security cameras made a little test to examines the camera ability to detect motion and objects, so they install a wall- camera that has the pan – tilt feature and then , they called one of them to enter the room and to go somewhere. At those moments the camera is panning around the room and displaying all objects and any motion, if detected. The chubby guy is hiding somewhere, if the person who installed that camera discovers his place then the test went well, if not , in that case the test would fail, and you need more programs or accessories to install along with your camera.

This invention concerns the testing of surveillance camera installations. In particular, the invention involves an automatic testing system for surveillance camera installations, and a method for testing. The invention involves receiving test or “probe” images from at least one camera in the installations. Storing a reference image from at least the one camera in Comparison of the probe image with a reference image from the same camera, and production of an output when maintenance is required for that camera. The comparison involves the steps of: Extracting salient features from both the probe and reference images. Calculating matching factors between the salient features extracted from both images. And, computing a decision about whether maintenance is required from the matching factors.

An automatic testing system for surveillance camera installations, comprising: an input port to receive test or “probe” images from at least one camera in the installation; a computer memory to store a reference image from at least the one camera; a computer processor to compare a probe image with a reference image from the same camera and produce an output when maintenance is required for that camera; the comparison involving the steps of: extracting salient features from both the probe and reference images; calculating matching factors between the salient features extracted from both images; and, computing a decision about whether maintenance is required from the matching factors.
